An adirondack chair is considered a unique furniture piece and will require a cushion template. A template is a pliable paper or cloth pattern cut to the shape of the cushion you want.

First, you will need to lay out a sheet of paper on the seat, pressing the paper flat all along the bottom edges.

Draw around the outside edge of the seat, or where you would like the cushion to be placed and cut out the shape.

After you cut out the template, make sure that it fits. It may take a few attempts before you are satisfied with your template, so double check by folding your template in half to make sure it is symmetrical. Remember, your new cushion will be cut to the same shape as your template.

Next, you will need to cut out the shape on your back seat. Lay a sheet of paper against the back seat and press the paper flat all along the edges.

Draw around the outside edge of the back seat or where you would like the cushion to be, and cut out the shape.

Now consider your thickness. You will need to remember to subtract the thickness of the seat template from the height of the back seat template. For example, if you want a 4 inch thick seat cushion, you will need to subtract 4 inches from the back seat cushion template.
